Anthropic Acquires Vercept to Advance Claude's Computer Use

Claude Code

Anthropic has acquired Seattle-based AI startup Vercept, which specializes in AI perception and interaction capabilities, to accelerate Claude's computer use features. The deal brings on Vercept co-founders Kiana Ehsani, Luca Weihs, and Ross Girshick, who have deep expertise in how AI systems interact with everyday software. Vercept's product Vy will shut down in 30 days as the team integrates into Anthropic. The acquisition follows Claude Sonnet 4.6's jump to 72.5% on OSWorld (from under 15% in late 2024) and marks Anthropic's second major acquisition after Bun.

The Acquisition

Anthropic announced on February 25, 2026, that it has acquired Vercept, a company specializing in AI perception and interaction capabilities. The acquisition aims to enhance Claude's ability to perform complex tasks within live applications. Vercept was founded in 2024 by former Allen Institute for AI (AI2) researchers Matt Deitke, Kiana Ehsani, Ross Girshick, Luca Weihs, and Oren Etzioni, and had raised a total of $50 million.

Vercept's Vision and Team

Vercept was built on the principle that making AI genuinely useful for completing complex tasks requires solving hard perception and interaction problems. The company's co-founders have spent years developing expertise in how AI systems can interact with everyday software. Vercept will wind down its external product, Vy, and the team will integrate with Anthropic's operations. Notably, founding member Matt Deitke left Vercept to join Meta last summer for a pay package reportedly amounting to $250 million over four years.

Impact on Claude's Capabilities

The acquisition follows the recent launch of Claude Sonnet 4.6, which demonstrates substantial improvements in computer use skills. On OSWorld, a widely-used evaluation for AI computer use, Anthropic's Sonnet models went from under 15% in late 2024, when computer use was first released, to 72.5% today. The model now approaches human-level performance on tasks like spreadsheet navigation and web form completion.

Strategic Context

This marks Anthropic's second major acquisition, following its purchase of Bun. The company has stated that it prioritizes teams whose technical ambitions align with Anthropic's mission and whose approach to AI development reflects the same safety and rigor principles that guide the organization. Vercept's expertise in AI-driven software interaction is expected to materially accelerate the pace of improvement in Claude's computer use capabilities.
