OpenAI shipped ChatGPT for iOS version 1.2026.188 on July 13, 2026, adding native support for inline visualizations inside Codex tasks. Previously, developers reviewing a Codex task on their phone had to rely on text output or switch context to see generated charts, diagrams, or other visual artifacts. With this update, visual output now renders directly in the task thread, making it easier to review a Codex agent's work — such as a data analysis or a UI mockup — without leaving the conversation.

This builds on the task-management surface OpenAI introduced to the ChatGPT iOS app on July 6, when Codex tasks first became creatable, searchable, and forkable directly from a chat conversation. The July 13 update extends that surface with richer in-app review tools.

Reliability and Interface Improvements

Alongside the new visualization support, OpenAI tightened up task creation so that newly created Codex tasks now generate reliable links back to them, reducing cases where users lost track of a task after kicking it off from a conversation. Tool-activity styling and progress indicators were also refined, giving a clearer sense of what a Codex agent is doing mid-task, and file-opening feedback was improved so users get better confirmation when opening a file from a task.

Bug Fixes

The release also resolved a handful of smaller issues:

• Composer controls now stay visible above the keyboard when typing long prompts
• Fast mode selection now persists correctly per task instead of resetting
• Initial prompts no longer ignore the selected approval preset
• Autocomplete backgrounds and task rows that could become unresponsive were fixed

Taken together, this is a maintenance-and-polish release for Codex's mobile surface rather than a headline feature, but the inline visualization support is a genuine quality-of-life win for anyone reviewing Codex output from their phone.
