Codex CLI Lets Developers Expand Patch Details While an Approval Prompt Is Open
Codex CLI 0.167.0 lets developers expand patch details in the transcript while an approval prompt is open, so a change can be reviewed in full before approving it.
Key Takeaways
- Patch details can be expanded while an approval prompt is open.
- Developers can review a full diff before approving.
- The change supports safer approvals in the terminal UI.
- Network approval prompts also close when their requests end.
- Concurrent requests to the same endpoint are prompted one at a time.
- The feature shipped in Codex CLI 0.167.0 on November 6, 2026.
Reviewing Patches During Approvals
Codex CLI 0.167.0 allows developers to expand patch details in the transcript while an approval prompt is still open. Previously a developer who wanted more of a diff before approving had less room to inspect it. Now the full patch can be opened without dismissing the prompt.
Why It Matters
Approval prompts are the main safety check in Codex. Being able to read the whole change at the moment of decision makes approving less of a guess.
The change is tracked in pull request #58281.
Also in This Release
