Figma: AI Vectorize Tool

FigmaView original changelog

Figma launched Vectorize, a new AI image editing tool that converts raster images into fully editable vector graphics directly on the Figma canvas. Available in both Figma Design and Figma Draw, the tool supports hand-drawn sketches, PNG icons, real-world textures, and other bitmap images β€” converting them in a single click into scalable vector layers that can be recolored, reshaped, and refined without leaving Figma. Vectorize joins Figma's existing AI image toolkit alongside Remove Background, Erase Object, and Expand Image.

Overview

On February 5, 2026, Figma launched Vectorize β€” an AI-powered tool that converts raster images into editable vector graphics. The feature is available in both Figma Design and Figma Draw, and integrates directly into the canvas workflow without requiring any external tools.

What Vectorize Does

Converting raster artwork to vectors has historically required dedicated software like Adobe Illustrator or Inkscape, manual tracing, or third-party plugins with inconsistent results. Vectorize brings this capability natively into Figma using AI, allowing designers to transform bitmap images into clean, scalable vector paths in a single click.

The tool works with a wide range of input types:

  • Hand-drawn sketches β€” pencil or ink drawings can be converted into flexible vector illustrations, preserving organic character while making every stroke editable.
  • PNG icons and logos β€” existing rasterized brand assets can be brought up to vector quality without sourcing original source files.
  • Real-world textures β€” photographs or scanned textures can be transformed into stylized vector equivalents for use in illustrations.
  • Hand-lettered typography β€” hand-drawn logotypes or lettering can be traced and converted into modifiable vector paths, making each curve and stroke independently adjustable.

How to Use It

To vectorize an image, a designer selects an image layer on the canvas and either clicks "Vectorize" in the AI image editing toolbar (in the secondary toolbar, under "More") or accesses it through the Actions menu. The resulting vector is deposited on the canvas in place, ready for editing.

Availability

Vectorize is available to Full-seat users on Professional, Organization, and Enterprise plans with AI enabled. Like other AI tools in Figma, Vectorize actions consume AI credits.

Part of a Broader AI Toolkit

Vectorize represents the newest addition to Figma's growing suite of AI image editing capabilities. The existing toolkit already includes Remove Background (for stripping image backgrounds), Erase Object (for removing elements within an image), and Expand Image (for extending an image beyond its original boundaries using generative fill). Vectorize rounds out the set with a conversion capability that moves images from raster to vector format entirely within the design environment.
