Figma: Check Designs, Built-In Design System QA

FigmaView original changelog

Figma introduced Check designs, a native design quality assurance tool that automatically audits files against a team's design system and surfaces inconsistencies in one panel. The feature flags hard-coded values (colors, typography, spacing, radius) and suggests the correct design tokens as replacements, detects color contrast violations with WCAG 2.0 AA/AAA-compliant fixes, and identifies components detached from their source library or referencing unsubscribed libraries. Check designs is available on Organization and Enterprise plans.

What Is Check Designs

Figma launched Check designs on June 4, 2026: a native design QA tool built directly into the canvas that compares a file's current state against the team's published design system and flags every discrepancy it finds. The goal is to eliminate the manual, error-prone process of reviewing files for design drift before a handoff.

Key Capabilities

Variable and Style Suggestions

Check designs detects hard-coded values for color, typography, border radius, and spacing (the most common source of design drift) and surfaces the correct design system token as a one-click replacement. This helps teams that have invested in a variables-based design system actually enforce it, rather than relying on designers to remember every token name.

Accessibility Checking

The tool includes a built-in accessibility layer: it flags color combinations that fail WCAG 2.0 AA or AAA contrast requirements and proposes compliant replacements from the design system. This brings accessibility checking into the design phase rather than relegating it to a separate audit step.

Library Mismatch Detection

If a file references tokens or components from a library the team is not subscribed to, Check designs surfaces that as an issue. This is particularly useful in large organizations where multiple design system libraries coexist and files can accidentally pull from deprecated or incorrect sources.

Detached Component Detection

Check designs also identifies component instances that have been detached from their source library, allowing teams to re-link or replace them before the file reaches development.

Availability and Setup

Check designs is available on Organization and Enterprise plans. Figma recommends that teams configure the feature by marking specific libraries in Check designs' settings to improve suggestion accuracy, and that variable scoping is set correctly to prevent primitive tokens from surfacing where semantic tokens are expected.

The feature is designed to fit two workflows: catching issues during active design work, and running a final QA pass before handing off files to development. Both use cases benefit from having corrections available within the Figma canvas rather than requiring a separate external audit tool or plugin.
