Users describe the desired behavior of a plugin in natural language, specifying what it should do, what controls to expose, and what parameters to accept. The Figma agent generates the plugin accordingly. At launch, generative plugins live in the file where they were created and are accessible to anyone with access to that file. Plugins use Figma's native UI, so they feel like built-in tools rather than third-party add-ons.
Use cases demonstrated include layout generators, vector path tracers, and tools that automate repetitive operations across large files. The generative plugin capability is rolling out gradually on all paid plans as of June 24, 2026.
Shader Fills and Effects: AI-Generated WebGPU Materials
Shader programming has historically required specialized knowledge. Figma's new shader fills and effects capability makes visual effects available to any designer through the same agent interface they already use. Users describe the effect they want, or provide an image as a reference, and the agent generates a parameterized WebGPU program that renders on the canvas.
The effects span a wide range of visual styles: dithering, pixelation, various blur types, frosted glass, polished chrome, and other surface-quality effects. All shader parameters are surfaced as on-canvas controls by default, making them adjustable without re-prompting the agent. Shaders can be stacked with other effects, every exposed parameter can be keyframed using Figma Motion, and shaders are ready for seamless conversion to code in popular formats.

Expanded Context: Connectors and Skills
Beyond generative plugins and shaders, the open beta release expands the agent's awareness of external context through connectors. The agent now integrates with Notion, Granola, Excel, GitHub, and Atlassian, allowing it to pull in documents, spreadsheets, and repository context as part of its generation process. Slack and additional integrations are planned for upcoming releases.
Skills, the reusable instruction sets that teams define to encode their workflows and preferences, are now shareable within teams. Chats with the agent are visible to teammates in the same file, allowing collaborative review of AI-generated design decisions.
The Figma agent also gains FigJam and Slides expansion, extending its capabilities beyond the core design canvas.
