GitHub Copilot: Claude Opus 4.6 Now Available in Visual Studio, JetBrains, Xcode, and Eclipse

GitHub Copilot

GitHub has expanded Claude Opus 4.6 availability within GitHub Copilot to cover Visual Studio, JetBrains IDEs, Xcode, and Eclipse, completing the model's rollout across the full suite of supported development environments. The model is accessible via the chat model picker in agent, ask, and edit modes across all paid Copilot tiers. For Business and Enterprise organizations, administrators must first enable the Claude Opus 4.6 policy in Copilot settings before users can select the model.

Claude Opus 4.6 Completes Its GitHub Copilot Rollout

GitHub has brought Claude Opus 4.6 to the remaining supported development environments in its Copilot product line. Following its initial general availability on February 5, 2026, the model is now accessible in Visual Studio, JetBrains IDEs, Xcode, and Eclipse — joining the existing availability on github.com, GitHub Mobile, and Visual Studio Code.

Where the Model Is Available

Developers can now select Claude Opus 4.6 from the chat model picker across every major Copilot-supported environment:

  • Visual Studio Code (previously available)
  • github.com (previously available)
  • GitHub Mobile (previously available)
  • Visual Studio
  • JetBrains IDEs (including IntelliJ IDEA, PyCharm, and others)
  • Xcode
  • Eclipse

The model is available in agent, ask, and edit modes within the chat interface, giving developers access to Anthropic's flagship model regardless of their primary development environment.

Availability and Administration

Claude Opus 4.6 is available to all paid Copilot tiers: Enterprise, Business, Pro, and Pro+. For Copilot Business and Enterprise organizations, there is a prerequisite step — administrators must explicitly enable the Claude Opus 4.6 policy in their organization's Copilot settings. Once the policy is active, all members of the organization will see the model available in their model picker.

This policy-gating approach follows the same pattern GitHub uses for other powerful models in the Copilot ecosystem, giving organizations control over which AI models their developers can access.

Context

The expansion completes a two-week rollout arc for Claude Opus 4.6 within GitHub Copilot. The model was first made generally available on February 5, initially accessible through github.com, GitHub Mobile, and VS Code. The February 18 update extends that access to the full breadth of Copilot's supported IDE ecosystem, ensuring parity across development environments.
