Codex Joins Copilot's Agent Providers in JetBrains
GitHub Copilot Chat for JetBrains IDEs added OpenAI Codex as an agent provider in public preview, giving developers another engine to drive agentic tasks alongside the existing Claude option. Teams can now choose which provider backs their agent runs directly inside JetBrains.
More Control Over Agent Runs
The update introduces new CLI session approval levels, giving developers finer control over how much autonomy an agent has before it acts. It also adds MCP and hook management inside Agent Customizations, so Model Context Protocol servers and hooks can be configured and managed from within the IDE rather than through external config.
Inline Chat Reaches GA
Alongside the agent provider changes, Inline Chat graduated to general availability in JetBrains IDEs, letting developers invoke Copilot in place, right where they're editing, as a stable, supported feature.
Availability
The Codex agent provider is in public preview, while Inline Chat is now generally available for JetBrains users on Copilot.
