Where Grok 4.5 Shines
According to GitHub's internal testing, Grok 4.5 performs especially well on terminal-based coding tasks inside Visual Studio Code and Copilot CLI. The model is noted for executing tools in parallel and taking direct action rather than pausing for extensive deliberation, which makes it a strong fit for exploratory coding, unblocking complex or ambiguous tasks, and time-sensitive workflows where speed matters as much as correctness.
Availability Across Copilot Surfaces
Grok 4.5 is rolling out gradually across a wide set of plans and surfaces. It is available to Copilot Pro, Pro+, Max, Business, and Enterprise subscribers, and can be used within Visual Studio Code, Visual Studio, Copilot CLI, the GitHub Copilot cloud agent, the GitHub Copilot app, JetBrains IDEs, Xcode, and Eclipse. Because the rollout is staged, some users may not see the model immediately and should check back if it isn't yet visible in their model picker.
Billing and Enterprise Controls
Grok 4.5 is billed under GitHub Copilot's usage-based pricing model, following provider list pricing. For Business and Enterprise customers, access is not automatic: administrators must explicitly enable the Grok 4.5 policy for their organization, since the model remains disabled by default until turned on.
The addition continues GitHub Copilot's strategy of diversifying its model lineup beyond a single provider, giving developers a genuine choice between OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and now xAI models directly inside their existing workflows.
