GitHub Copilot for JetBrains: Claude Now Available as Agent Provider
GitHub Copilot for JetBrains IDEs now supports Claude as an agent provider in public preview, letting developers select Claude directly from the agent picker inside Copilot Chat without leaving the IDE. Setup requires installing the Claude Code CLI locally and configuring its path in settings. The Claude agent currently runs in bypass permissions mode, with configurable permissions planned for a future release. The same June 22 update also promotes the Copilot cloud agent to general availability in JetBrains.

Claude lands in JetBrains Copilot Chat
GitHub Copilot for JetBrains IDEs now offers Claude as an agent provider in public preview. Developers can pick Claude straight from the agent picker in the Copilot Chat panel, without switching tools or leaving the IDE.
Setup
To use the Claude agent, install the Claude Code CLI on your machine, then go to Settings > Tools > GitHub Copilot > Chat and set the Claude Code CLI path. Once configured, Claude appears as a selectable option in the agent picker.
Permissions caveat
The Claude agent currently runs in bypass permissions mode, meaning all file edits and tool calls are automatically approved. Configurable permissions are planned for a future release.
Cloud agent reaches GA
The same June 22 update promotes the Copilot cloud agent to general availability in JetBrains, removing the previous Editor Preview feature flag requirement.
