GitHub Mobile: Model Picker Now Available for Copilot Coding Agent

GitHub Copilot

GitHub Mobile now allows Copilot Pro and Pro+ subscribers to select an AI model when starting a Copilot coding agent session directly from iOS or Android, eliminating the need to switch to desktop. Available models include Auto (the default, which optimizes for speed and availability), multiple Claude and GPT variants. Support for Copilot Business and Enterprise is planned for a future update.

Model Selection Comes to Copilot Coding Agent Sessions on Mobile

GitHub has added a model picker to the Copilot coding agent workflow within GitHub Mobile, giving Copilot Pro and Pro+ subscribers the ability to choose their preferred AI model when initiating an agent session from their phone or tablet. Previously, selecting a specific model for coding agent tasks required the desktop experience. The update brings that flexibility to iOS and Android, available in the latest production builds as of February 11, 2026.

Available Models

When starting a coding agent session in GitHub Mobile, subscribers can choose from the following options:

  • Auto — the default selection, which has Copilot automatically pick a model optimized for speed and performance based on current availability
  • Anthropic Claude Opus 4.5
  • Anthropic Claude Opus 4.6
  • Anthropic Claude Sonnet 4.5
  • OpenAI GPT-5.1-Codex-Max
  • OpenAI GPT-5.2-Codex

The Auto mode is designed for users who want a sensible default without making an active choice on each session, while the explicit model selections suit developers who want to match the model's capabilities to the complexity of the task at hand.

Use Cases

The model picker addresses a practical trade-off that developers face when using the coding agent on mobile. For lighter tasks — bug triage, small fixes, documentation updates — a faster model reduces wait time and gets a draft pull request ready sooner. For complex work that involves deep reasoning over a large codebase, a more capable model may produce a better result even if it takes longer. Having this choice available directly in the mobile app means developers can act on coding tasks from anywhere, without being tethered to a desktop to configure the session.

Availability

The model picker for the coding agent in GitHub Mobile is available now for Copilot Pro and Pro+ subscribers on the latest production build of GitHub Mobile on both iOS and Android. Support for Copilot Business and Enterprise is on the roadmap and expected in a future update.
