Lovable: Built-In Payments with Paddle and Stripe

Lovable

Lovable introduced native payment processing directly inside its AI app-building platform, allowing builders to accept subscriptions and one-time payments without leaving Lovable. The feature supports two providers β€” Paddle (acting as a Merchant of Record, handling tax and compliance globally) and Stripe β€” with Lovable automatically generating the checkout flow, product catalog, and UI components. Built-in payments require a Pro plan or higher and Lovable Cloud, with test and live environments keeping transaction modes cleanly separated.

Overview

Lovable launched a native payment layer on April 14, 2026, making monetization a first-class citizen inside the AI app-building platform. The feature, called Lovable Payments, lets builders add subscriptions and one-time purchases to any Lovable app through a conversational prompt β€” no separate integration work required.

How It Works

When a builder asks Lovable to add payments, the agent analyzes the project and either recommends a provider or presents both options side by side. Lovable then handles the full setup: creating products and prices, generating the checkout flow, and inserting the necessary UI components β€” all without leaving the chat interface.

Two payment providers are supported:

Paddle

Paddle operates as a Merchant of Record, meaning it takes on legal and financial responsibility for each transaction β€” managing payments, tax calculation, billing, and compliance on behalf of the seller. This makes Paddle particularly well-suited for builders who want to sell globally from day one, without configuring VAT, GST, or other regional tax obligations themselves. Paddle offers both overlay and inline checkout display modes, at a rate of 5.0% plus 50 cents per transaction.

Stripe

Stripe is available for builders who prefer a standard payment gateway, particularly those focused on domestic markets or service businesses. Stripe's embedded checkout integrates directly into the app, with styling configured in the Stripe dashboard.

Supported Business Models

Lovable Payments accommodates a wide range of monetization structures, including SaaS apps with tiered monthly or annual subscriptions, consumer apps with premium feature unlocks or one-time purchases, membership communities with recurring access fees, digital products including e-books and templates, and developer tools with API access tiers or usage-based billing.

Physical product sales are routed through the existing Shopify integration rather than Lovable Payments.

Environment Separation and Go-Live

Lovable Payments enforces a clean boundary between test and live modes. In preview, only test card numbers process transactions; real payments only flow on published sites. When a project goes live, Lovable automatically syncs products and prices from the test environment β€” no manual recreation needed.

Going live requires completing a readiness checklist covering privacy policy, terms of service, and refund policy, plus passing KYC/KYB screening with the chosen payment provider.

Availability and Limits

Lovable Payments is available to Pro plan and higher subscribers with Lovable Cloud active. Only one payment provider can be used per project, and projects cannot be remixed after payments are enabled. A customer portal for subscription management is provided by both Paddle and Stripe.

This launch marks the first native Merchant of Record integration inside an AI app-development platform, completing Lovable's vision of taking a product from idea to revenue-generating application without leaving the platform.
