Lovable: Chat Before You Build

LovableView original changelog

Lovable introduced a conversational mode for starting new projects β€” users refine ideas through dialogue before any code is generated, reducing wasted first builds from under-specified prompts. Works with the Chat Mode agent powered by Claude Opus 4.5.

Chat Before You Build: Conversational Project Initialization

Lovable's December 2025 update introduced a new way to start projects: rather than submitting a prompt and immediately triggering code generation, users can now open a conversational session to explore and refine their idea first.

The Problem It Solves

A common frustration with AI app builders is that the first generated version often misses the mark β€” not because the AI did anything wrong, but because the initial prompt was underdeveloped. Clarifying intent, scoping features, and aligning on the right approach benefit from back-and-forth dialogue.

How It Works

When starting a new project, Lovable now offers the option to enter Chat mode rather than immediately triggering code generation. The AI agent engages in dialogue β€” asking questions, suggesting approaches, and helping articulate what to build. Once satisfied, the user transitions to build mode with a far better-informed starting prompt.

Relationship to Chat Mode Agent

This feature builds on Lovable's broader Chat Mode Agent, which operates without making direct code edits. The December addition extends that conversational interface to the very beginning of a project's lifecycle.
