Lovable: Domain Management Flexibility — Buy, Transfer, and Connect on Your Own Terms

LovableView original changelog

Lovable expanded its domain management capabilities, giving users more control over how domains are purchased, connected, and moved. Users can now purchase domains without immediately tying them to a project, keeping them parked in the workspace until needed. Additionally, domain portability is now supported: users can transfer Lovable-registered domains to external registrars by disabling the transfer lock and generating an EPP authorization code, with a 60-day ICANN-mandated lock applying to newly registered domains.

New Domain Management Controls in Lovable

Lovable expanded its domain management capabilities with two new controls that give users more flexibility over how domains are purchased, connected, and moved between registrars.

Purchase Domains Without Connecting Them to a Project

Previously, purchasing a domain through Lovable required connecting it to a project as part of the same flow. Lovable has now decoupled these steps. Users can acquire domains through Workspace settings and Workspace domains, leaving them parked in the workspace without any project connection. The domain can then be linked to any project at a later time, either from workspace domain settings or from within individual project settings.

This change is useful for teams or builders who want to reserve domain names ahead of time, before a project is ready to go live, or who manage a portfolio of domains across multiple projects.

Transfer Domains to External Registrars

Domain portability is now supported for domains registered through Lovable (processed by Name.com as the ICANN-accredited registrar). From the domain configuration panel, users can initiate an outbound transfer by disabling the transfer lock and revealing an EPP authorization code to submit to the destination registrar.

Two important constraints apply:

  • Domains registered less than 60 days ago are subject to an ICANN-mandated transfer lock that Lovable cannot override. The exact unlock date is displayed in the transfer dialog.
  • When a transfer completes, Lovable automatically disconnects the domain from any connected projects.

This feature provides an exit path for users who wish to consolidate domain management elsewhere, while keeping the initial purchase and DNS configuration experience within Lovable's workflow.
