Copilot Cowork
Microsoft has announced Copilot Cowork, a new AI agent capability built in close collaboration with Anthropic. Described as "Wave 3 of Microsoft 365 Copilot," it moves beyond conversational assistance to autonomous multi-step task execution across the M365 suite.
How It Works
Copilot Cowork uses Anthropic's Claude as its reasoning engine and employs the same agentic harness system as Anthropic's Claude Cowork desktop agent. Unlike Claude Cowork (which runs locally on macOS/Windows), Copilot Cowork runs in the cloud within the customer's Microsoft 365 tenant, with access to enterprise data through Work IQ — intelligence drawn from emails, files, documents, meetings, and chats.
The system leverages Model Context Protocol (MCP) for integration and can execute sequential tasks across the M365 suite without manual intervention.
