Warp Expands Prompt Customization in March 2026 Release

Warp's March 2026 release brings further refinements to its native prompt UI, introducing deeper customization options for the redesigned Warp prompt.

What Changed

The primary addition is prompt customization support for the new Warp prompt. Users can now configure which context chips appear in the prompt bar, tailoring the information displayed to match their workflow.

As part of this update, the Warp prompt now displays separate chips for git branch and git diff stats. Previously, git context was combined into a single indicator; it is now split into two distinct chips.

Pending Prompt Indicator

A pending prompt indicator is now shown when using the /fork-and-compact or /compact-and slash commands. These commands trigger conversation compaction — often with a follow-up prompt — and the new indicator gives users visual feedback that a prompt is queued and in progress.

Context and Background

Warp's native prompt surfaces contextual metadata directly in the terminal input area. The ability to customize which chips appear — directory, git branch, diff stats, Kubernetes context, and others — lets developers declutter their prompt or surface exactly the information relevant to their current project.
