A Long-Requested Feature Finally Ships
Warp shipped pinned tabs to Stable on July 15, 2026, closing out a feature request that dates back to December 2022. The original GitHub issue asking for "Safari/Chrome-style" tab pinning drew 44 comments and 224 reactions over several years, with a second duplicate report filed in 2025 underscoring sustained demand. How Pinned Tabs Work
With the feature enabled, users can pin any individual tab, or an entire tab group, to keep it locked at the front of the tab bar regardless of how many other tabs are opened afterward. Pin state now persists across app restarts, so a pinned project dashboard or an ongoing agent conversation does not need to be re-pinned every time Warp launches. The rollout also folded in fixes for edge cases uncovered during the Preview period, including how pinning interacts with cross-window tab dragging and how pinned tabs render in Warp's horizontal tab bar layout.
Built on Top of Tab Groups
Pinned tabs is a direct extension of tab groups, the project-based workspace organization feature Warp shipped to Stable on June 30, 2026. Because pinning works at both the tab and group level, users who already organize their sessions into groups can now pin a whole project's group of tabs at once rather than pinning each tab individually. Together, the two features give Warp users a more structured way to manage growing numbers of terminal sessions, especially as multi-agent workflows spread work across many concurrent tabs.
Rollout Details
Warp kept the underlying feature flag active after flipping pinned tabs to Stable by default, preserving a fast rollback path if issues emerge now that the feature is exposed to the full user base rather than just the Preview channel. The team had spent roughly five weeks in Preview, from the initial feature-flagged rollout in early June through incremental fixes for drag behavior, restoration ordering, and horizontal-tab-bar rendering, before considering it ready for general availability.
