Claude Opus 4.8 Now Available in Windsurf

Windsurf has added Claude Opus 4.8 to its model lineup as of May 28, 2026. The new model is available at the same base pricing as Claude Opus 4.7 — $5 per million input tokens and $25 per million output tokens — making it a direct upgrade at no extra cost for existing usage patterns.

Fast Mode pricing drops significantly

The headline pricing change is in Fast Mode: Opus 4.8 Fast Mode is priced at $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens, compared to the previous Opus fast mode pricing of $30/$150 per million tokens. That represents a 3x reduction in fast-mode costs.

Within Windsurf's credit-based system, the model maps to the following credit multipliers:

• Low: standard tier
• Med: medium tier
• High: high tier
• XHigh: extra-high tier

Performance benchmarks

Claude Opus 4.8 scores 88.6% on SWE-bench Verified, a standard benchmark for autonomous software engineering tasks, and 69.2% on SWE-bench Pro. Anthropic reports the model is four times less likely to leave code flaws unflagged compared to Opus 4.7, making it notably stronger for code review and security-sensitive workflows.

Dynamic Workflows research preview

Alongside the model release, Anthropic introduced Dynamic Workflows as a research preview — a feature that enables more flexible, multi-step agentic task execution. This is available within the Windsurf IDE environment.

Mid-task system messages

Opus 4.8 supports mid-task system messages, allowing developers to inject updated instructions or context into a running agentic session without restarting the task.

• Devin CLI

The model is live immediately for all Windsurf users with no migration required.
