A Pattern of Alpha Model Drops

Phoenix Alpha is the latest entry in Windsurf's series of stealth AI models, released under the "[Animal] Alpha" naming convention the company has used since late 2025. Falcon Alpha, introduced in October 2025, was described as a powerful agentic model designed for speed. Penguin Alpha followed in November 2025, appearing quietly in the model selector for a subset of users and believed to be based on a Cognition post-training run.

Phoenix Alpha continues this tradition: an early-access, experimental model released in the Windsurf Next channel ahead of any broader rollout.
